Feeling like your head is about to hit your keyboard? Try one of these tricks to boost your energy (via Health.com):

  1. Yawn. It cools your brain and helps to wake you up.
  2. Take a walk. Studies show that a 10-minute walk will keep you energized for the next two hours.
  3. Laugh. A good laugh temporarily raises your heart rate and your blood pressure, which can wake you up when you’re feeling tired. So share a joke with a co-worker or watch a funny YouTube clip.
  4. See red. Looking at something that is bright red can perk you up because it actually makes your muscles move faster and work harder, giving you a burst of energy. Keep red flowers on your desk, or hang a crimson-hued photo or painting in your line of sight.
  5. Eat chia seeds. They’re loaded with B vitamins, fiber and protein to give you long-lasting energy. Just stir them into your yogurt.
  6. Stretch in a doorway. Stand in a doorway, facing forward with your feet several inches apart, and reach to the sides of the frame. Grab the frame with your fingers, then push your chest forward until you feel a stretch in your torso and back; hold for 30 seconds.
  7. Exercise. The boost in your metabolism and the release of endorphins after a workout help you to feel energized.
  8. Eat omega-3 fatty acids. Studies have shown they can improve your mood and brain function to help prevent a midday slump.
